If you'd asked her yesterday morning, Jo would have said that she'd reached a point where Fandom couldn't surprise her any more.

Then her dad had shown up, and suggested she and Edmund go to dinner with him.

Mom had never mentioned he was so good at interrogations.

Both hands were now at her hips, urging her on as he could feel himself getting closer and closer. He didn't make any secret of it either.

Jo groaned and shuddered, bracing her arms against his shoulders as her hips ground down against his.

"I can't," Edmund started, then switched to, "I'm going to-" but that too was cut short as his whole body tensed suddenly and his breath caught in his throat.

Jo bit off a moan as her body gave one final shudder and she collapsed against him.

Edmund let himself relax and rest his head back. He kept his arms wrapped around her, hands lightly placed on her back. "Thank you."

Jo laughed and pressed her face against his neck. "You're welcome."

He pressed a kiss into her hair. "Pretend I said something romantic there instead."

Jo stretched out beside him, grinning lazily. "But politeness is terribly romantic."

He shifted to put his arm around her and still let both of them rest comfortably. "Then pretend I didn't try to rework what I actually said."

"Okay," Jo replied agreeably. "And after all that we didn't even use the cuffs."

He reached over and picked them up from where they were resting on the bed. "This time," he said, suggesting that they still had plenty of time to do whatever strange things in bed that she wanted. "It's still early. Do you want to go see him? Without me, I mean. Without the boyfriend death glare."

"I will tomorrow," Jo said after a moment. "He has to go in the evening, but we can still spend the day together."

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah," Jo replied quietly. "It's strange, even for this place, but I think I am."

"I suppose it was only to be expected that there would be one last hurrah from the island before the end of summer," Edmund mused, trying not to think about the connection between the end of summer and Jo going home, "but this is a bit out there even for Fandom."

"Tell me about it. Even turning into a doll that one time was less weird."

"You're going to miss it," he said, poking her in the arm to get her to admit it.

He was just asking to be poked back. "Course I am. This island weird, but it's my kind of weird."

The 'oof' sound that came as a result of the poke was a bit weak. "I would say you should stay, but I suspect I would meet your mother sooner than either of us expect after that."

"Complete with shotgun, and she's an even better shot than my dad."

"I'd rather avoid the business end of a shotgun if it's all the same."

"Do you really want an interdimensional incident on your hands?"

"Well, I'd be dead or badly wounded if your mother's aim wasn't thrown off, and then my brother would probably declare war on the United States, or at the very least make them sit through some very lengthy diplomatic meetings."
